Save Money On Travelling

Unforgettable experiences come from travelling. Yet, travelling is, at least at times, unaffordable for most of us. The following post will help you see the world for less.

When booking the flight

  • Travel in low season: Traveling in low season refers to flying during off-peak periods. It is considerably cheaper to fly when the kids go back to school after the summer holidays and the Easter break, and right after New Year.
  • Avoid booking in advance: There’s no guarantees, but the combination of being flexible (on dates and airline) and booking last minute can save you hundreds of pounds, even during peak times! Follow airlines and hotels on Twitter to get last-minute deals.

Parents be aware! The council will fine you £60 if you go on holidays with your children during term time without permission from the headteacher. The fine will double to £120 after 21 days. You’ll be prosecuted for the child’s absence from school if you fail to pay within 28 days.

At the airport

  • Pre-book the airport parking: Reduce stress and costs by booking your airport parking in advance. Prices fluctuate, but a week at Heathrow’s long stay car park in August costs an average of £200; you can reduce this bill to £85 just by booking in advance.
  • Take your own food: Not so long ago food wasn’t permitted through security. However, rules have changed and you can now take as much food as you will. Airport food isn’t great… Yet, prices can double one you’ve passed through security. Pack your favourite goodies in advance and save money while enjoying your favourite food! Note, liquids are still a no, no.

While on holiday

  • Do as the locals do: Eat, shop and move in the same way a local would do. Local humble food is cheaper than eating in Michelin star restaurants. In the same way,  taxis are a lot more expensive than public transport. Be adventurous and save money by embracing the culture of the country you’re visiting. Don’t be scared to ask, people love to brag about their homeland!
  • Save on foreign currency exchange: Saving on currency exchange when taking cash is straightforward, compare multiple exchange points to get the best deal. However, it is also the easiest way to get robbed. For this reason, most of us opt for taking a card with us while travelling.
